Awards shows are equivalent to the Superbowl to many; with parties and events to enjoy the pre-shows, entertainment, and main events. No matter your favorite awards show, there are events around the Columbus to celebrate the best of the year in each category – whether you agree or not (Birdman, anyone?). Music, film, sports and more, the entertainment business keeps us, well, entertained. Whether your favorites win or not, its always fun to watch the red carpet, check out the attire, listen to musical performances, and see who has craziest speeches (you know some celebrities are good for that).

Leading this year’s nominees are Eighth Grade, First Reformed, If Beale Street Could Talk, Leave No Trace Movie, We The Animals, and WILDLIFE. Live broadcast of the ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. I’ve heard amazing things about If Beale Street Could Talk, so its definitely on my list. The event is free.

Tuesday, January 22 at 7:30 am.
Go into work or school a little late for this annual nomination party. Meet in the Torpedo Room for one of President Chris Hamel’s favorite mornings of the year — our Oscars Nominations Breakfast. Enjoy a light breakfast and chat with local film critics, GFC members and movie lovers about their picks for this year’s Academy Awards. Breakfast starts at 7:30 am, nominations are announced at 8:30 am. The event is free.
