2020 Trick or Treat Beggar’s Night in Columbus
Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, 2020, and most communities avoid holding trick or treat on Friday and Saturday evenings. Therefore, many communities are electing to have trick or treat, or beggar’s night, on Thursday, October 29.
As 2020 has gone, schedule is subject to change and cancellation. We’ve added links so you can keep up with any changes. Recommended safety precautions include
- Everyone wear masks (either as part of a costume, or just as a nose/mouth covering)
- Don’t allow children to reach into a candy bowl. Candy should be handed out by an adult or put in individual grab bags.
- Parents should go with children in order to ensure they are following precautions and are waiting their turn at stops
- Stay in family groups, or within groups with whom you have regular exposure.
- Sanitize hands frequently
- Stay home if anyone is the household is feeling sick. Candy isn’t that important. A Halloween candy hunt around the house will entertain any child who has to miss out on trick or treat in 2020.
There have been a few weather-related changes for Halloween 2020, so we noted those below. Communities are organized by county.
Trick-or-Treat Schedule around Columbus on Halloween, Thursday, October 29, 2020
Yes, it looks like it’ll be cold and rainy, but most communities don’t have the public safety resources to reschedule trick or treat for 2020. Bundle up and take umbrellas.
Many communities opt to use the recommendations from MORPC (Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission). Local government members support a unified trick-or-treat date for the region.
- When Halloween, October 31, falls on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, Trick or Treat is held the Thursday prior to October 31.
- When October 31 falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, Trick or Treat is held on October 31.
Local communities maintain the authority to change or keep their trick-or-treat date and time. In the event of inclement weather, the recommended date will likely not change (though several changes have been made below due to severe weather forecast).

Thank you!
Worthington links to a 2019 article. 2020 is on Thursday.
There isn’t much, but here is the community trunk or treat options for the week. It won’t be the first cold and rainy Halloween – bundle up and grab some umbrellas! Kids are happy just hitting a few houses usually. If you have friends or family nearby, you could drive to their houses to collect larger hauls (since they won’t pass out as many in the rain).
Are they doin anything on wed night since its going to be pretty nasty out. Thursday
Got it – October 31 from 6-8 pm. I’ve added it to the list.
Do you have any information on Commercial Point? It’s not listed?
Thank you! I have made the correction to Thursday, October 31. I keep having it in my mind that the 31st is a Wednesday (from last year)
Start of the article is wrong…. Which day is it?
Wednesday or the 31st?
As Wednesday is the 30th and the 31st is Thursday
Thanks
