The Martin Luther King Jr. Performing and Cultural Arts Complex connects community through the arts.
The King Arts complex hosts many cultural and educational activities, and community events in the King-Lincoln District on the near East side.
The Center aims to educate and celebrate the significant contributions of African-Americans to the culture and history of America and the world.

Youth Programming
The King Arts Complex typically hosts Youth Arts Academies during the Columbus City Schools spring, summer and winter breaks. The academies offer professional quality performing arts opportunities for students studying dance, music, and theater.
They also offer free after school programming for grades 4-8. Check the website for information about upcoming youth programs.

Nicholson Auditorium
First Tuesday Tea is a monthly forum for seniors to explore dance, music, books, news from the community, and so much more. Sessions can include presentations by guest artists, lecturers and community leaders.

Heritage Music Festival
July 10-August 7, 2025. Held during select Summer months on Thursday evenings, this free outdoor music festival allows attendees to enjoy performances by an all-star line-up of some of central Ohio’s hottest musicians.
Bring your blanket or lawn chair, and dine from the food trucks at Mayme Moore Park.

Kwanzaa Youth Winter Academy
December 20, 23-24, 26-27, 30-31, 2024 | 8:30 AM – 3 PM
Kindergarten through 8th grade (Ages 5 – 13)
KWANZAA is an African-American celebration of family, community and culture. Youth participants will learn about the principles of KWANZAA by working with local, visual, and performing artists.

All Arts Day – Aminah Robinson Day
February 15, 2025 from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at the King Arts Complex
Each February, The King Arts Complex honors the life and legacy of one Columbus’ most celebrated artists at the Annual Aminah Robinson Family Day.
This special event is an opportunity for people of all ages to create art with local visual artists, enjoy music, and learn more about Aminah’s rich contributions to the world of art.
Surround yourself in inspiration and storytelling with themed projects inspired by her work. Kick-start your imaginations with prompts designed for a wide range of ages, abilities and materials. These workshops are free and supplies are provided.
Aminah Robinson Day is a free, community event; register here. There are two sessions; please register for only one.
MLK Day Open House Celebration
Each year the King Arts Complex presents an MLK Day Open House. This annual event brings children, families, and friends together to enjoy musical and live theatrical performances.
Visitors of all ages learn about the civil rights movement, participate in art activities, view current art exhibitions and make new friends.
