Freedom's Never Free Veterans Day event in Lancaster

Freedom’s Never Free is a free community event, honoring veterans, active-duty military members, first responders and their families.

The event features traveling military memorials, a Field of Heroes flag display, ceremonies, entertainment and opportunities for the community to show its appreciation for those who serve.

Freedom’s Never Free

The 2026 celebration runs November 5–7, 2026 at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds in Lancaster. Highlights include:

Thursday, November 5: Field of Heroes setup, arrival of the traveling memorials and an opening ceremony featuring the Posting of the Colors, a military drill performance, a Veterans Pinning Ceremony and guest speakers.

Friday, November 6: A USO dance from 6–9 p.m. featuring The Nostalgics big dance band.

Saturday, November 7: An Appreciation Celebration from noon–6 p.m., including a patriotic pet parade, a flag retirement ceremony for worn American flags, entertainment and a special appearance by Jessica Lynch, an Iraq War POW.

The event also features memorial exhibits honoring service members lost in World War II, the Korean War and other military conflicts, along with a memorial recognizing first responders. Community members can volunteer to help set up displays, serve as volunteer guards or assist with cleanup.
