With the uncertainty of farmers markets this year, a joining a farm CSA in Columbus is one of the best ways to ensure you’ll have fresh, local products this year.
These subscription services with farms are usually offered during the growing season from June through September, and may include produce, dairy, meat, and more. Buying directly from the farm directly supports that family and farm, and ensures they can continue to provide food for the community. If you don’t want to commit to a subscription program, you can buy produce, meat, and dairy directly from many farms in Columbus.
CSA stands for “community-supported agriculture”. Essentially you pay for your “share” of the farm before the season begins, which helps the farms to have the money ahead of time to buy supplies, seeds, equipment and such. Your options among the various farms may include weekly or biweekly pickups or delivery; 1-4 person shares; vegetables, fruits, bakery goods, dairy, or meat.
CSA payments are usually one lump sum or a series of payments ahead of time to receive a box of seasonal produce throughout the growing season.
We’ve gathered a list of farm CSA options in Columbus, as well as farms that offer online orders for pickup or delivery. Additionally, we added a few third party options offering products from multiple local farms, so you can order a wider variety at once.
If you know of other farms offering CSA’s or direct order, please email details to info@columbusonthecheap.com
