Memorial Weekend is often celebrated as the first long weekend of the Summer, when weather has finally warmed up. Don’t forget to take time to remember those who gave their lives for our country this Memorial Day. There are Memorial Day parades and ceremonies around Columbus to honor our heroes.
All Weekend
- Westerville Field of Heroes, presented by the Rotary Club of Westerville Sunrise. Across the street from the Westerville Community Center on Cleveland Avenue is visual display of more than 3,000 American flags. Fields open on May 25 and will include an opening ceremony and concert on Saturday, May 26, a Sunday, May 28 Memorial Ceremony, and a 5K Run/Walk benefiting Honor Flight Columbus and sponsored by OhioHealth. The weekend also features the Reading of Names, Taps, and Flag Sales (to send to a hero or dedicate to the field). Field is illuminated at night from May 25-27 and is a must-see. - Memorial Day Service in Grandview: May 24, 2018, 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Memorial Park
The Blue Star Mothers Memorial Day Service will be conducted in honor of all those from Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff who gave their lives in service to their country. (Rain Location is the Grandview Heights High School Auditorium)
Saturday, May 26
- Grandview Heights Parade: 10 am on First Avenue from Cambridge Boulevard to Oxley Road. Includes marching bands, floats and service organizations, as we salute our servicemen and servicewomen
Monday, May 28
- Bexley Memorial Day Service: Drexel Circle at 11 am
- Prairie Township
- Galloway Cemetery: 9:30 a.m. Service conducted by Grove City Memorial Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #8198
- Alton Cemetery: 12:00 p.m. Service conducted by Camp Chase Post #98 of the American Legion
- Dublin Memorial Day Parade and Observance: 11 a.m parade in Historic Dublin from The Shoppes at River Ridge to Dublin Cemetery with wreath throwing ceremony on Bridge Street Bridge; 11:30 am ceremony at the Dublin Cemetery; 12 pm complimentary picnic lunch at Monterey Park
- Gahanna Memorial Day observance: 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 73 W. Johnstown Road.
- Grove City Memorial Day Parade and Service: Parade steps off at 11 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and proceeds down Broadway, stopping at City Hall for a short ceremony. The parade will continue to Grove City Cemetery, 3605 Grove City Road, for the Grove City Memorial Day service.
- Hilliard Memorial Day Ceremony: 11 am VFW and American Legion posts will observe Memorial Day with a ceremony at Wesley Chapel Cemetery
- Marysville Memorial Day Parade: 8:15 a.m. “Lost at Sea” Ceremony at Schwartzkopf Park, 9:00 am Parade from Fifth and Plum Street to Oakdale Cemetery, 9:30 am Services at Oakdale Cemetery, Amrine Cemetery (American Legion Post 79), then the Catholic Cemetery (VFW) immediately after (near noon)
- Newark Memorial Day Parade: 10:15 am Parade route is from Everett Park, North on Cedar St. to Cedar Hill Cemetary for 11 am ceremony.
- Perry Twp – Memorial Day Celebration (4895 Reform Road NE, Newark) 1:00 P.M. Smith Chapel Cemetery
- Troop 25 Annual Pancake Breakfast: The breakfast will last from 7:30a.m. until 9:30 a.m. prior to the Annual Memorial Day Celebration on the Croton town square at 10:00a.m. There will be pancakes with a variety of delicious toppings and served with sausage and eggs.
- Pataskala Memorial Day observance: Memorial Day Ceremony starting at 10 am at the Pataskala Cemetery. Once completed the ceremony will continue at 10 am at Veterans Green.
- Sunbury Memorial Day Flea Market and Parade: 7 am – 5 pm. Shopping in Sunbury Village Square with vendors offering treasures, crafts, antiques, plants, and food. Admission for adults and teens: $1.00, children 10 and under are free. Parade is at 10 am to honor those who have served our country.
- City of Powell Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony: 10 am – 12:30 pm. Begins on Grace Dr. and proceeds west. The ceremony will be held at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial in Village Green Park.
- Worthington Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony: 10 am. The parade starts at the American Legion Post and ends in Walnut Grove Cemetery at the Circle of Honor, where American Legion Post 239 holds their Memorial Day Service to honor our fallen veterans. See all of the flags marking over 1,300 Veteran’s grave sites in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

- Ashley Memorial Day Parade
- Galena Memorial Day Parade: 1 pm from Galena Village Square to the village cemetery
- Granville Memorial Day Parade: 10:30 a.m. May 28 on Broadway and end in Maple Grove Cemetery with a ceremony.
- Pickerington: 9 a.m. ceremony at Violet Cemetery; 9:30 am march to Victory Park; 10:30 ceremony in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg to honor Cpl. David Johnston, the post’s namesake, and Cpl. Dustin Durga and Lance Cpl. Terry Parsons; 1 p.m. the Memorial Day celebration will begin at the post in Pickerington
- Reynoldsburg: 10 a.m. service will be conducted by Whitehall VFW Post 8794; 1 p.m. ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. A bagpiper will play between 9:30 and 11 a.m. and again between 12:30 and 3 p.m. and will take part in both services.
- Whitehall: 10 am ceremony with Whitehall VFW Post No. 8794 at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. A second ceremony will be held at noon May 30 at the VFW post, 4100 E. Main St. Whitehall Mayor Kim Maggard will speak.
