Donations to food pantries are highest around the holidays and through winter months, but the donations decrease during spring and summer.
The need for food donations is a constant though – especially in summertime when kids in need don’t have access to free lunches at school.
Stamp Out Hunger Campaign
Help your local community on Saturday, May 13, 2023, by leaving a bag a non-perishable food near your mailbox to help the annual Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger Campaign.
Your local letter carrier will pick up the bag and deliver it to the local food bank or pantry, where it will help those in your own community. In past year’s, up to 75 million pounds of food was collected, and they hope this year will be even better.
Please included only non-expired, non-perishable goods. Do not donate food in jars. For more information, check out the website.
The Letter Carriers’ food drive is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. Hunger affects 1 in 8 Americans, including millions of children, senior citizens and veterans. In the 30 years since it began, the food drive has collected about 1.82 billion pounds of food for struggling residents.
