I received tickets to see opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion at the Schottenstein Center tonight and wanted to post a quick review. In short, the show was amazing. The clowns were actually funny and the stunts were breath-taking. The most amazing act was the Naya (Handbalancing), performed by Han Yuzen. For several minutes, she balanced on one hand on a post that was slightly larger than her hand, twisting her body in legs in ways that were beyond belief, while occasionally “hopping” from hand to hand, with her feet never touching the ground. Other favorites included Juggling, performed by Vladislav Myagkostupov, in which he incorporated dance, acrobats, and juggling using various parts of his body, and the Aerial Pas de Deux, with Amanda Orozco and Lorant Markocsany and their passionate high-flying stunts suspended by silk ribbons.
Whether you’ve seen several Cirque du Soleil shows or none, this show is for everyone – and everyone will call different acts their favorite. But I’m betting that the clowns with make you laugh and the Dralions will make you smile and the stunts will simply amaze you.
If you still don’t have plans for Valentine’s weekend (or anti-Valentine’s weekend), this show is a thrilling event that you won’t soon forget.
