Child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers, but over 70% of car seats are used incorrectly (by people who think they are doing it right!). Find out if you’re using car seats correctly at the Buckle Up with Brutus Car Seat Safety Event at 2450 Fred Taylor Dr, Columbus, OH 43210 (Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium) on Sunday, October 14 from 1-4 p.m.
The Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies at The Ohio State University will be hosting a free car seat installation and inspection event. Certified child passenger safety technicians will spend about 30 minutes providing hands on education to teach you everything you need to know to make sure your car seat is installed and used correctly. Please bring your car seat manual and vehicle owner’s manual. And don’t forget to bring your precious cargo too!
They are also having convertible car seat and booster seat giveaways for caregivers who need one while supplies last. Convertible seats are available for children up to 65 lbs, and booster seats will be available to children that are at least 4 years of age and over 40 lbs. The children must be present to receive one, and vehicles must have working lap and shoulder seat belts. Expectant mothers are eligible to receive one as well.
There will be fun stuff too! All attendees can enjoy free ice cream from Sweet Tooth Food Trucks, and Brutus Buckeye will be making an appearance. AAA will be raffling off a free AAA membership for any parent/caregiver who wishes to enter the drawing.
