Cooks Illustrated Test Kitchen recently tested 7 Inexpensive Non-Stick Skillets under $50 for non-stick properties, even heating, and durability, comparing them to one of the top brand pans that costs $159.95.
The winner? T-Fal Professional Total Nonstick 12-1/2-Inch Saute Pan, Black coming in at only $24.95 on Amazon (with free Super Saver Shipping). This pan came out on top for cooking eggs, crepes, and meat with no extra fat. This pan has 5 layers of nonstick, is dishwasher safe, oven safe to 350 degrees, and has a Thermo-Spot to show when the pan is adequately preheated, and it came out way ahead of the other pans in the rigorous testing.
So if you’re a fan of the non-stick pan, this one will get you the best bang for your buck. All non-stick pans need to be replaced every couple of years (more or less depending on use), so there’s no sense paying a for an All Clad. I generally use well-seasoned cast iron pans like this one (Lodge Logic L10SK3 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet), but am now considering purchased the T-Fal to have on hand as well. This would also make a great gift for a college student or someone moving out on their own for the first time!
