Franklin Park Conservatory

Franklin Park Conservatory hosts Family Fun Days on select weekends that will keep the kids entertained as the weather heats up. 

Don’t miss these upcoming Family Fun Days (free with admission, unless noted for art and activities):

Sunday, May 5, 11am–2pm
Skippyjon Jones costumed character leads a story time and activity sheets for kids. Plant catnip to take home for your feline friends.
Saturday, May 11
Kids enjoy musical crafts and activities from 11am to 1:30pm. ProMusica Chamber Orchestra performs at 2:30pm, followed by a musical instrument “petting zoo” and drum circle.
Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12
Adopt-a-Butterfly: 10am–2pm
Treat mom with a special opportunity to release a newly emerged butterfly. Watch it take its first flight into the Pacific Island Water Garden as you learn about these fascinating creatures.
Quantities are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis.
$5 per butterfly
Mother’s Day Concert: 2pm
The Magpie Consort, an a cappella vocal ensemble, presents “Songs of Earth, Songs of Peace.”
Saturday, May 25, 11am–2pm
Make a carnival mask inspired by the bright colors of Brazil. Cooking demonstrations and samples of Brazilian BBQ are offered around the live-fire cooking theater. ($2 per plate)
Saturday, June 1, 11am–2pm
Enjoy a butterfly carnival and get your face painted, play carnival games, draw butterflies with sidewalk chalk, and learn dances with teachers from Studio J. Make a colorful butterfly t-shirt ($5) and butterfly spin art ($2).

Don’t forget to check out Blooms and Butterflies at the Franklin Park Conservatory through September 2, 2013.  See hundreds of colorful butterflies fly freely in the Pacific Island Water Garden, a tropical haven filled with lush foliage and bright blooms.  Educational presentations take place everyday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and you can watch butterflies emerge from their Chrysalises through the glass windows of the Emergence Center.

While you’re visiting the Franklin Park Conservatory, be sure to check out the  Orchids! exhibition through April 7, 2013, the Sacrifice + Bliss: Aurora Robson exhibition through April 28, 2013, and the stunning Chihuly Collection throughout FPC, along with the other beautiful offerings.  Leave plenty of time for your visit, as there is truly a days’ worth of exploring at the Conservatory.

  • Daily Butterfly Releases
    Butterflies take their first flight into the Pacific Island Water Garden during daily, educational presentations at 1 and 3pm.
  • Butterfly Gardening Talks
    Daily, April 8–July 3, 2pm

Admission to the Franklin Park Conservatory is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors and students, and $6 for children (free under age 2).  Hours are 10 a.m.  – 5 p.m. Tuesday – Sunday, and Wednesday until 8 p.m., from January 12 – April 7, 2013.
