Spring weather will be here soon and there’s nothing that represents spring better than Blooms and Butterflies at the Franklin Park Conservatory March 11 through September 17. See hundreds of colorful butterflies fly freely in the Pacific Island Water Garden, a tropical haven filled with lush foliage and bright blooms. Educational presentations take place everyday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. when butterflies are released, and you can watch butterflies emerge from their Chrysalises through the glass windows of the Emergence Center.
You can also experience the magic of the butterfly metamorphosis at home. Native Painted Lady caterpillars available for purchase in Botanica Gift Shop. Once they have emerged, Painted Lady butterflies can be released outdoors to continue their life cycle.
Head to the Dorothy M. Davis Showhouse through May 29 for Fairy Gardens. The fairies, pixies, and gnomes will fascinate the little ones as they imagine living in the life-size fairy garden and miniature gardens. Get ideas to create a fairy garden of your own!
Open Door Studio in the Cardinal Health Gallery will feature Efflorescence: Works from Open Door Art Studio, through May 14. Open Door artists have honed their artistic talents to cultivate an exhibition comprised of original, floral-themed artworks. Over 70 multimedia works will fill the gallery with color, creativity and imagination.
Don’t miss the stunning Chihuly Collection throughout FPC, along with the other beautiful offerings. Leave plenty of time for your visit, as there is truly a days’ worth of exploring at the Conservatory.
Admission to the Franklin Park Conservatory is $14 for adults, $11 for seniors and students, and $7 for children (free under age 2). Yearly membership will save you money after just a couple visits, and reduced admission is available for families in eligible state programs. With all of the events and changing exhibits, there will always be something new to discover. Hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted for an event.
